Couple found slain in St. Vital home

The owner of a local construction company and his wife were found dead in their home in the St.Vital area of Winnipeg on Sunday afternoon the fourth and fifth members of the same family who have been slain since 2005.

Joel Labossiere, 34,and his wife Magdalena, 33, were found in their Chokecherry Cove home shortly after noon Sunday by a family member who called police.

Both suffered fatal gunshot wounds, police said Monday.

Joel Labossiere is listed in a provincial home builders' registry as the owner of JDL Homes.

Media reports have suggested Maggie was pregnant, but that has not been confirmed by police.

Joelis related to Fernand and Rita Labossiere and their son Remi; the three were found dead in their home in St. Leon, Man., after a fire in 2005.It was later determined they had been shot.

No one has been charged in the St. Leon killings.

Since their deaths, the Labossiere family has been embroiled in a legal battle over the estate of the dead relatives.

Fernand and Rita Labossiere's other son, Denis Jerome Labossiere, is on parole for a 2006 conviction on drug-trafficking charges linked to the Hells Angels.He was one of 12 people arrested in February 2006 as part of Project Defence, a massive investigation into suspected drug dealers that involved a controversial sting operation.

'Shock to the system'

Darren Shpak, who lives in the Labossieres' St. Vital neighbourhood, said the deaths have him wondering about the safety of his neighbourhood.

"Twenty-two years of living here, and it's been quiet the whole time," he said. "It's just a shock to the system.Like, everybody in the house was just it just gives you a creepy feeling inyour stomach."

Another local resident, Ron Kaposi, said the killings would change the neighbourhood.

"The neighbourhood seemed fine, and then something like this happens. You just don't know what's going to happen next," he said.

"Where is it going to stop after it starts? Something like this happens, you know, people will feel uneasy. I think the families that get along are going to be more to themselves, always worried about stuff like this."
