4 deaths, 94 more cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba on Saturday

This update comes after Manitoba announced 104 cases of COVID-19 on Friday. The last time daily case numbers were above 100 was on Feb. 18, when 139 cases were announced.

Manitoba test positivity rate up slightly to 4.2 per cent as Northern health region sees 45 new cases

Fourpeople havedied and Manitoba has 94new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, a provincial news release says.

Of the new cases, just under half 45 are in the Northern Health region.

There are 29 cases in the Winnipeg health region, 10 in the Southern Health region, seven in the Prairie Mountain Health region and three in the Interlake-Eastern Health region.

Three of the deaths reported Saturday are from the Winnipeg Health region, including a woman in her 80s linked to the outbreak at the Concordia Place Personal Care Home, a man in his 60s anda woman in her 70s.

A man in his 70s from the Interlake-Eastern Health region also died.This brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Manitoba to 916.

There are 909 active cases and 30,873 people have recovered.

Manitoba's five-day test-positivity raterose to 4.2per cent on Saturday, up from 4.1per cent on Friday. In Winnipeg, the rate is 2.9 per cent, downfrom threeper cent.

The number of people in hospital due to COVID-19 fell slightly to 152 on Saturday, down from 154, while the number of coronavirus patients in intensive care units remained at 22.

Labs completed 1,837COVID-19 tests on Friday, bringing the total number of completed tests to548,095.

100K doses of vaccine administered

In another development, the province announced a new milestone on Saturday100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.

"We know we still have much work to doso that we can return to our new normal with COVID-19. But it's also important to acknowledge hard work, commitment and dedication from those on the front lines and on our Vaccination Implementation Task Force who have made this possible," Health Minister Heather Stefansonsaid in a release.

According to a CBC Vaccine Tracker, 31,464 Manitobans are fully vaccinated, or about 2.28 per cent.

Health officials also announced another confirmed case of the B117 coronavirus variant first found in the United Kingdom. The case is in the Winnipeg region and is related to travel.

No additional cases of variants of concern were confirmed on Saturday.
