Daphne Penrose named Manitoba children's advocate

The former acting chief director of the provincial Child Protective Branch has been named Manitoba's new children's advocate.

Daphne Penrose was appointed to the position Wednesday based on recommendations from members of a Manitoba Legislative Assembly committee.

Penrosehas worked in a variety of areas inthe child welfare system over the past 28 years, in jobs rangingfrom a family support and abuse worker to several upper management positions with Child and Family Services.

She has a master's degree in social work and is a registered social worker.

Penrose recently served asacting chief executive officer with Winnipeg Child and Family Services' community service delivery department. She replaces former children's advocate Darlene MacDonald, who held the position for two terms.
