Every hound into the water: Dogs get chance to cool off in Winnipeg wading pools

The City of Winnipeg is closing out the wading pool season by giving Fido and Rover a chance to romp through the waters at two pools.

The City of Winnipeg is closing out the wading pool season by giving Fido and Rover a chance to romp through the waters at two wading pools.

Happylandwading pool on Marion Street and Bruce Park wading pool on Portage Avenue will allow dogsto cool off with a swim on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Your canine companion will have a set time to swim depending on its weight. Dogs under 30 pounds will be able to swim from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dogs 30 pounds and over can swim from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

All pooches must have a valid City of Winnipeg licence and pups must also be registered to play in the pools. Registration can be completed by contacting311.

Some wading pools will start closing Wednesday, but the following pools will stay open until Sept. 4:

  • Bronx Park.
  • Central Park.
  • Cordova Park.
  • Dakota Park.
  • Ducharme Park.
  • Keenleyside Park.
  • Machray Park.
  • McKittrick Park.
  • Shaughnessy Park.
  • Sturgeon Heights Community Centre Wading Pool.
  • Vimy Ridge Memorial Park.
  • West Kildonan Community Centre.
  • Westdale Park.

Spray pads will close for the season on Monday, Sept. 4.

Non-heated outdoor pools close Sept. 1. Heated pools will close on Sept. 4.
