Doors Open Winnipeg gears up for day 2

Doors Open Winnipeg is set for a second day of welcoming visitors inside buildings not always open to the public.

76 buildings in Winnipeg open to the public for annual Heritage Winnipeg event

Doors Open Winnipeg is set for a second day of welcoming visitors inside buildings not always open to the public.

The two-day annual event is organized by Heritage Winnipeg.

Doors Open Winnipeghas been growing in popularity since it first took place in 2004. According to Heritage Winnipeg, 2015 was the most popular year to date drawing 27,000 visits to sites across the city.

This year 76 buildings arepart ofDoors Open includingbusinesses, governmentdepartments, churches and museums.

TheDalnavert Museum is also providing a special Doors Open event today. It haspartnered with the Costume Museum of Canada to showcase a collection of accessoriesincluding hats, gloves and jewellerydating back to the Victorian Era.

Volunteers from the Manitoba Living History Society will be at Dalnavert dressed in 1910scostumes to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the right to vote for some Manitoba women.

"This is a great way to learn and teach people about history," said Genevieve Woods, a volunteer interpreter with Manitoba Living History.
