Fire guts 4 residences in Winnipeg

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a blaze that took about three hours to put out in Winnipeg's North End.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a blaze that took about three hours to put out in Winnipeg's North End.

Large flames could be seen shooting out ofthe roof of a duplex at96 McKenzie Street, where the fire started around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

It then spread from that duplexto a neighbouring one. When it was finally extinguished at about 11 p.m., it had gutted four residences in the two buildings and caused an estimated$400,000 in damage.

All occupants of the four residences made it out safely but some pets have not yet been found and it is not known whether they made it out.

The injuries to the firefighters were not serious, thougha spokespersonhad no details onwhat they were.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. TheArson Strike Force and Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating.
