Homicide detectives investigate death of man found unresponsive in Centennial apartment

Winnipeg homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man, 43, who died at hospital after being found unresponsive early this morning at an apartment in Winnipeg's Centennial neighbourhood.

Winnipeg homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man, 43, who died at hospital after being found unresponsive early this morning at an apartment in Winnipeg's Centennial neighbourhood.

Police were called to the apartment on Fountain Street shortly after 3 a.m. They provided emergency medical care before transporting the man to the hospital in critical condition, where he died, police said in a statement.

Last night at about 7 p.m., there was also a fire at the same building. In a release, the city of Winnipeg said firefighters entered the building and fought the fire from the inside, where they quickly brought it under control.

Some residents left their units while others were able to stay inside, the citysaid.The fire was contained in the unit it was started in, according to the release.No injuries were reported in the fire.

Winnipeg police Const. Jason Michalyshen said at this point the fire and homicide appear to be unrelated events.
