First Investors Group Field event held by Winnipeg's faith community

The first event at Winnipeg's new football stadium took place Sunday afternoon with 15,000 people in attendance.

Congregations from 91 churches of all denominations are holding one of the largest church services in the history of the city at the Investors Group Field, thenew home of the Winnipeg Blue bombers.

"You take the metaphor of sports and being on one team and pulling together and working together, we're going to talk about the importance of unity and commitment one to another," said Mark Hughes, one of the pastors who organized the event.

"The same thing that makes a sports team work is what makes the church work," he said.

The event kicks off at noon with live entertainment, and the service begins at 1 p.m.

"Obviously we're very excited," said Hughes. "A little overwhelmed because there are so many details to take care of, and the fact that nothing has ever happened in there before ever. So everything's a first not only for us, but for them."

Former Bomber great Milt Stegal will also be there to address the crowd.
