Time for the flu shot: Here's where you can get yours in Manitoba

Manitobans are encouraged by health officialsto get their free flu shots to avoid the dreaded virus, which can range from the sniffles and aches in some people to severe complications and even death.

Influenza, which spreads around the globe in annual outbreaks, causesabout three million to five million cases of severe illness every year and about 250,000 to 500,000 deaths, the World Health Organization says.

The most common symptoms include a high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing and feeling tired. Symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and most last less than a week, although that nagging cough can last more than two weeks.

Free flu shots will be available through community clinics across Winnipeg from Oct. 2527, at the following locations:

You can also get the flu shot from your doctor's office, pharmacy,walk-in clinic,QuickCareclinicorcommunity health office.

AllManitobansover six months of age are eligible for the seasonal flu vaccine at no charge, although pharmacists can only administer the flu shot to children who are at least seven years old.

Clinics are also offered in communities around the province.
