FortWhyte hosts day of eco-conscious activities for Earth Day

Swarms of eco-conscious kids and parents gathered at Fort Whyte over the weekend to celebrate Earth Day.

Swarms ofkids and parents gathered at FortWhyteAlive over the weekend to celebrate Earth Day.

The annual international day of eco-awareness actually took place Friday, but that didn't keep the crowds from taking part in fun, green activities at FortWhyteSunday.

CBC Manitoba meteorologist John Sauder gave kids a run-down on how to understand weather patterns, and Kids' CBC host Patty Sullivan was also on hand. She and television rock star puppy Bookaboo put on a story-telling session for the young ones in the audience.

The centre, now in its 50th year, hosted entertaining workshopsdesigned to teachkids about environmental stewardship.

"We learned about pollution-ing [sic]. Pollution-ing is not very good for the earth," one boy told CBC News.

"When there's garbage on the ground, it can be a risk to animals or humans, so it's a risk to everyone and it's good to clean up," another youngster added.
