France names Winnipeg veteran as Knight of the Legion of Honour

A Second WorldWar veteran fromWinnipeg is being honoured by France for his contribution in liberating the country.

Jack Tennant, whoserved on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in 1944, is being named a Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.

The honour, established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, is considered one of the top national honours by the French government.

Tennant, 91, knew he had been nominatedbut just got the official letter and medal a couple of weeks ago.

It means a lot. It's something that helps you remember what happened on D-Day how you behaved, what happened, who you met, he said.

An official ceremony to celebrate the medal with his family will happen at the end of the month.
