Dauphin RCMP have determined that the death ofa 12-year-old boy in a tobogganing mishap in a western Manitoba town was an accident.

An autopsy done Monday found Kasey Thompson died of a brain stem injury, according to an RCMP release issued Tuesday.

RCMP said the cause of death was consistent with investigators' findings related to the incident. They added there was no sign of foul play andit is considered to be an accident.

Kasey was riding a toboggan with his older brother on Sunday in Gilbert Plains, about 30 kilometres west of Dauphin, when they flew in the air and landed with a "significant impact" on some ice at the bottom of the hill they were riding on.

RCMP said the brother got help from a neighbour after the toboggan accident, but Kasey died the same day of his injuries in a hospital in Grandview.
