Google's indoor Street View comes to Winnipeg

Google's Street View feature isgoing indoors, allowing web searchers to look inside some Canadian businesses, including at least one in Winnipeg.

The popular search engine recently launched a Business Photos program that allows business owners to get 360-degree interior imagesof their establishments captured andposted on Google Maps and Places.

The "virtual tours" allow visitors to look inside the store, restaurant or other business in question, to see if they want to check it out in person.

Google's indoor Street View is being rolled out around the world. Canadian cities that are involved so far include Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria.

Larry Updike of CBC Radio One's Up to Speed program spoke on Tuesday with Hart Macklin, a Google-certified photographer based in Winnipeg.

Larry also spoke with Jonathan Glass, whose store, Party Stuff on Milt Stegall Drive, has signed on with the indoor Street View feature.
