It chose the spot, across from the Manitoba legislative building,to celebrate the organization's 25th anniversary in the province.

It also happens to be the 75th anniversary of the provincial park, which contains a number of monumentsto the sacrifices made by members of the Canadian military.

"The stage was perfect to pay tribute to the site that honours the many that helped make the city and province a safer and better place to live," stated a news release from Habitat for Humanity.

The ceremonial wall-raising was performed by Premier Greg Selinger, along with Mayor Sam Katz, Habitat Manitoba CEO Sandy Hopkins, and other dignitaries and volunteers.

The build is slated to be done by June 15.

It will later be moved through Winnipeg's streets to a permanent location on McCalman Avenue in the Elmwood neighbourhood.
