Heat warnings in central Manitoba, possible thunderstorms in the south

Manitobansare in for another hot day Saturday as Environment Canada issues heat warnings for parts of central Manitoba.

Norway House, Cross Lake, Wabowden, Moose Lake, The Pas, Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Island Lake, Oxford House, God's Lake and Red Sucker Lake all have heat warnings. Temperatures there could reach or exceed 29 C and overnight lows at or above 16 C.

Much of the southeast corner of the province, including Winnipeg, isunder a special weather statement due to high temperatures, although temperatures are expected to stay below heat warning levels.

A hot, humid air mass is bringing unseasonably hot weather.

Environment Canada advises people to watch for signs of dehydration and heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

With the Canada Summer Games competitions beginning Saturday, it also advises people to drink plenty of water and stay in the shade as much as possible.

Scattered thunderstorms could develop across southern Manitoba, and these storms could become severe later in the day. Storms will taper off later in the day, but could return in parts of the region on Sunday.
