Ring dikes being closed

South of Winnipeg, partial ring dike closures are underway or almost complete at Ste. Agathe, St. Adolphe and Gretna.

Sandbaggers needed

Anyone in the Winnipeg area who can help is asked to call 311 and register their availability.

The province also expects Highway 75 to partially close north of Morris Monday night or early Tuesday.

In the city of Winnipeg, Ness Avenue is closed at Sturgeon Road as a result of water on the road.

Steve Sumka, acting emergency coordinator for the City of Winnipeg, saidlow-lying properties on Lord Avenue and Kingston Row have been protected but some work is still needed there before sandbag volunteers are sent north along the Red River to places such as Scotia Street.

"We don't want to cause alarmism, but at the same time we have to follow [the city's] plan because, like now, they're right on the money and we're going to be successful if we follow that plan," he said.

The city still needs 900 volunteers on a daily basis to help sandbag the 400 remaining flood prone properties.
