Horseshoe necklace sale raises money for injured Manitoba jockey

Horseshoe necklaces are being worn to show support for the jockey that was injured earlier this summer at Winnipeg'sAssiniboia Downs.

The necklaces are being sold for $45 at the Assiniboia Downs and the proceeds are being given to Alyssa Selman, who sustained serious spinal cord injuries after her June accident where she was thrown from a horse mid-race.

"[It] warms her heart that people care to the level they do. That they recognize the tragedy of hersituationand recognize that people want to support not only her but her very young family,"saidDarren Dunn,CEO of Assiniboia Downs.

The necklaces have been flying off the shelves to support the mother of two, Dunnsaid. Original estimates were that they'd sell about50 necklaces, but days after starting the sale, they have alreadysoldmore than 100 of them.

"I think the attachment to the cause is obviously still top of mind for a lot of folks who attend AssiniboiaDowns and who generally have heard the story. We were a little cautious with the initial order but in the end the reward was definitely there," Dunn said.

The GoFundMe page for Selman has raised more than $14,000.
