Hydro chooses final preferred route for Manitoba-Minnesota Transmission Project

Manitoba Hydro has chosen the final preferred route for the $350-million Manitoba-Minnesota Transmission Project.

The project is part of a 308-megawatt power deal with the Green Bay-based Wisconsin Public Service.

The proposed line, which has been in the works for years, would run from Dorsey Station northwest of Winnipeg to the Manitoba-Minnesota border.

The utility has filed an environmental impact statement for the project with the province and is working to secure a license for the line.

But some Manitobans have expressed frustration with the plans, including a homeowner who said it cuts through his brand-new retirement property near Richer, Man.

Hydro is anticipating the line will be working by mid 2020, if it's approved.
