Injured coyote spotted in Winnipeg taken to wildlife centre

An injured coyote that was found in Winnipeg's West End today is being taken to a wildlife rehabilitation centre outside the city, according to Manitoba Conservation.

Other incidents of coyotes in Winnipeg include North End, Point Douglas and St. Vital

An injured coyote that was found in Winnipeg's West Endis being takento a wildlife rehabilitation centre outside the city.

Manitoba Conservation saysit received a tip from the public about a coyote spottednear Polo Park Shopping Centre on Wednesday morning.

Winnipeg police and natural resourceofficers were seen in the area of Strathcona Street, where the animal was hiding.

The animal was tranquillizedand rescued and is being transported to the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre in le-des-Chnes, Man., a provincial government spokesperson told CBC News on Wednesday afternoon.

There have been other, recent incidents of coyotes in the city, including one shot by police in the North End. Others have been seen in Point Douglas, St. Vital and even a parkade onPortage Avenue in downtown.

"Some coyotes do live in and around the city, and while they generally shy away from populated areas they do get spotted from time to time," a governmentspokesman statedin an email to CBC News.

"The public is advised not to approach an injured animal, and if they have any sightings they should call the Winnipeg district [conservation]office at204-945-5221."
