Inquest called into death of Stony Mountain inmate Dwayne Flett

Manitoba's acting chief medical examiner has ordered an inquiry into the death of Dwayne Mervin Flett.

Manitoba's acting chief medical examiner has ordered an inquiry into the death ofDwayneMervinFlett.

Correctional officers doing a routine check discoveredFlett, 32, unresponsive in his Stony Mountain Institutioncell during the early hours of April 15, 2015.

Officers immediately started CPR, which was continued by paramedics once they arrived, but Flettwas pronounceddead in the ambulance just outside the prison.

An autopsy performed at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg determined thecause of death was hanging.

The inquest was called in accordance with the Fatality Inquiries Actto determine what, if anything, can be done to prevent similar deaths from occurring in thefuture.

Information aboutthe date, timeand location of the inquest has yet to bedetermined by the province's chief judge.

Flett had been at Stony Mountain since May 31, 2011, for sexual assault and sexual interference.
