Lake Manitoba flood victims launch $260 million lawsuit

Lake Manitoba flood victims have launched a $260 million lawsuit against the province claiming too much water was sent into the area, flooding already saturated land.

People involved in the lawsuit owned homes, cottages, businesses or farms in the Twin Beaches region.

Alice Dent lost the cottage her father bought nearly 50 years ago in the 2011 flood. It was also the place where his ashes were buried after he died.

To her the lawsuit isn't about the money, but the loss of family history.

Dent is saddened her grandchildren won't have the second home she did growing up, and she blames the Manitoba government.

"The government needs to fess up that they dumped a pile of water in there and it had nowhere to go," she said. "I don't think you can talk to anybody that doesn't understand that we were sacrificed for Winnipeg."

Dent said a judge may certify the lawsuit as a class action case, if not the plaintiffs will sue as a group.
