The canopy skating rink and part of the Arctic Glacier Winter Park is ready for skaters, announced the Forks on Monday.

"It's time to strap on the skates now that we have our rink," said Paul Jordan, The Forks' chief executive officer in a news release.

"The canopy skating rink is open with more to come in the weeks ahead."

Much more amenities will open later this winter, said The Forks, including: one kilometre of on-land skating trails, toboggan hill, professionally-designed snowboardpark, and the Great-West Life snow lounge.

Sections of the Assiniboine River have frozen and crews will start building as soon as possible, said The Forks. Winnipeggers should stay away from both rivers until the Forks announcesthe ice is safe.

Skate rentals available now at Iceland Skate Rentals located in the tower atrium at The Forks Market. Rates are $3 for children and seniors and $5 for adults. Skate trainers are also available for $2.
