Man, 20, dead after running boat ashore in Lac du Bonnet

A 20-year-old East St. Paul man is dead after the boat he was driving struck the banks of the Winnipeg River and ran ashore in Lac du Bonnet Friday night.

A 20-year-old East St. Paul man is dead after the boat he was driving struck the banks of the Winnipeg River and ran ashore in Lac du Bonnet Friday night.

RCMP were called to the area of Lake Avenue inLac du Bonnet at about 10:30 p.m. after someone reported seeinga ski boat crash into shore.

Investigators said it appears the driver was heading from the middle of the river at high speeds when the boat connected with the rocky shore.

The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said. He was the only person inthe boat.

Alcohol is considered to have played a role in the crash, RCMP said.

The investigation is ongoing.
