Man charged in city's 2nd homicide of 2009

Police are investigating Winnipeg's second homicide of the year after a woman was found critically injured in a BalmoralStreet apartment early Sunday.

Police said 36-year old Valerie Anne Paypompee later died of her wounds.

A man, 34, has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the incidentat 624 Balmoral St.

The deceased and the accused were partners, police said Monday, adding they had been called to the address for domestic disturbances on previous occasions.

This is the second fatal incident in the same housing complex in the past few months.

A man was slain in an adjacent unit of the rooming house at 626 Balmoral St.in November. Two men are facing first-degree murder changes in connection with that incident, which claimed the life of Philip Nhial Mayer, 39.
