Man dies after crash in North End

The driver of a small car that was involved in an accident with an SUV in Winnipeg's North End has died in hospital, police confirmed late Friday night.

No other details were released about the deceased man. Police also confirmed that the Hummer,which a witness told CBC News seemed to come out of nowhere tosmash into the smaller car at about 3 p.m., was stolen.

The people inside theSUV fled on foot after the collision, runningthrough residential yards. Police officers and canine units searched the North Endfor the occupants of the Hummer.

Laura Backstrom lives right near the scene and heard the crash.

"I saw a guy run around my house,actually right in front of my window," Backstrom said.

As police scoured the area, theyblocked off some streets around the crash scene in the 700 block of Alfred Avenue and Andrews Street.

The closed roads were:

• Alfred Avenue between McGregor Street and Powers Street.
• Andrews Street between Aberdeen Avenue and Burrows Avenue.
