Man, 27, fatally shot by RCMP in Manitoba First Nation Saturday

A 27-year-old man is dead after he wasshot by police during an incident ata First Nation community on the shores of Lake Manitobathis weekend, theRCMP say.

A 27-year-old man is dead after he wasshot by police during an incident ata First Nation community on the shores of Lake Manitobathis weekend, theRCMP say.

Amaranth RCMP officers received a call for help from the Manitoba First Nation Police service in Sandy BayOjibwayFirst Nation around 5 p.m. Saturday, police said in a release Sunday.

The call was "for a disturbance involving a weapon at a residence," the release said, but the suspect had fled when officers arrived,

Officerslater found the man in an outdoor area in the community. Police said he was armed with multiple weapons, and that during the encounter with police, an officer shot a firearm and hit the man, the release said.

The man was pronounced dead after officers attempted "life-saving measures," the release said. No officers were physically hurt in the incident.

Manitoba RCMP major crime services are currently in the community investigating, the release said .

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba, which investigates all serious matters involving police, is conducting its own investigation, according to the release. RCMP said because the IIU is investigating, they can't provide any further information.
