Manitoba budget to be announced April 2

Premier Wab Kinewhas announced the provincial budget willbe revealed on April 2, his first since his party took office.

The 2023 budget, the last by the Progressive Conservatives, came in at $22B

Manitobans will learn in a month where their government intends to spend its money.

Premier Wab Kinew, speaking at the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto as part of a presentation to encourage investment in Manitoba, announced Monday hisgovernment'sprovincial budget willbe revealed on April 2.

In a news release, the governmentsaid thebudget would bring quality health care closer to home andincrease capacity and staffing within the system. It also said new measures would be introduced to lower costsfor Manitobans and grow the province's "diversified low-carbon" economy.

"As a province, we have so many opportunities to grow our economy and repair the services Manitobans need,"Kinewsaid in the release.

"It's going to take a balanced approach. With our firstbudget, we're taking responsible steps to deliver on our commitments to rebuild health care in our province, lower costs for families, make our communities safer and create good jobs."

The NDP came to power lastOctober after defeating the Progressive Conservative Party, which had formed government since 2016.

The PC's 2023 budget, released on March 7, was a total of $22 billion an increase ofnearly $2 billion from 2022.
