The province has given a local commercial compost company until the end of the month to clean up its act.

Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship has ordered Samborski Environmental to stop accepting new compost materials and remove all such materials from its site on McGillivrayBoulevard.

Samborski Environmental has been in the landscaping and gardening business for more than 90 years. Its organic waste collection and composting division is relatively new.

The company was ordered to clean up its site last summer. At the time the province said SamborskiEnvironmental had ignored orders and was not monitoring or controlling the source of the foul smells.

The province said Friday more than 500 complaints have been filed about excessive odours coming from the business over a five year period.

The company has until Dec. 1 to remove its composting materials, the province said.If Samborski Environmental doesn't comply with orders, the province said it will take over the cleanup at the company's expense.
