Manitoba votes 2019: Brandon West riding profile

The Brandon West riding has been around since 1969, taking up the western portion of the city of Brandon, south of the Assiniboine River,in southwestern Manitoba.

The riding is bounded on the east by 18th Street and on the north bythe Assiniboine River. To the south, it's bounded by Patricia Avenue, and to the westby the city limits. The riding includes Brandon University, which reported a student body of almost 3,700 in November 2018.

Brandon is Manitoba's second-largest city, with an official population of 48,859 according to the 2016 census a six per cent jump over the 2011 census. The southwestern Manitoba hub also serves surrounding communities and farmland and draws its workforce from 27 nearby municipalities, according to Economic Development Brandon.

Its population is 21,175, according to the province's 2018 riding profile(compiled fromthe 2016 census).

Themedian age of the riding is roughly on par withthe overall provincial medianat37.8in Brandon West compared to38.3provincewide,according to the 2018 riding profileand the 2016 census. The census found themedian household income in the area is $75,791.
