306 COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths reported over 3 days in Manitoba

Manitoba public health officials report 306 new COVID-19 cases and two deathsover three days, a provincial news release issued on Monday says.

Manitoba public health officials report 306 new COVID-19 cases and two deathsover three days.

There were 100 new caseson Saturday, 113 on Sunday and 93 on Monday, a provincial news releasesays.

Of the cases identified on Monday,46 (41 in people who are not fully vaccinated) are in the Southern Health Region, which has just over 15 per cent of the population of Manitoba.

There are also 25 new cases in the Winnipeg health region (10 not fully vaccinated), eight in the Northern Health Region (six not fully vaccinated), seven in the Interlake-Eastern health region (six not fully vaccinated) andseven in the Prairie Mountain Health region(four not fully vaccinated).

The two people who died werea man in his 40s from the Southern Health region and a manin his 60s from the Winnipeg health region.

The total number of deaths in people with COVID-19 in Manitoba is now 1,209,including 203 linked to more contagious variants of the coronavirus.

Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussinsays now is the time for Manitobans to get vaccinated and follow the fundamentals in order to get COVID-19 under control.

"We know that the transmission of COVID is increasing. We're entering our fourth wave now and the unvaccinated are certainly at much greater risk of severe outcomes," he said.

"We're seeing increasing ICU admissions. So all of our fundamentals, all of our public health measures are to do exactly the opposite of that to ensure we're not creating transmission chains of COVID-19."

The five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate jumped to 2.7 per cent provincially from two per cent on Friday, and is 1.2 per cent in Winnipeg.

There were 2,480 laboratory tests completed Sunday.

There are now 77 COVID-19 patients in hospital, which is a jump of 11 since Friday:43 people with active symptoms and 34 who are no longer infectious.

Among the 43 active cases, 67 per cent were unvaccinated, 16 per cent were only partly vaccinated and 16 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 19 people inintensive care, an increase of four since Friday. There are 14 people in ICU with active COVID-19 and five who are no longer infectious but continue to require critical care.

Among active cases in ICU, 86 per cent are unvaccinated and 14 per cent are partly vaccinated.

The total number of people in Manitoba ICUs remains well above the province's pre-pandemic capacity of 72. As of midnight, there were 86 people (both COVID-19 and non-COVID patients) in intensive care, a Shared Health spokesperson said in an email.

Few vaccinated people infected

The lastcoronavirusdata from the province was posted Friday, when 60 new cases and no new deaths were reported through the onlineCOVID-19 dashboard.

As of Monday, 84.7 per cent of eligible Manitobans hadone dose of a COVID-19 vaccineand 80.2 per cent had two, theonline vaccination dashboardsays. More than 1,300 more doses are scheduled for Monday.

New provincial data released Monday shows that a miniscule percentage of Manitobans experienced severe outcomes of COVID-19 after being vaccinated.

As of Monday, 0.22per cent ofManitobans who had received one dose of aCOVID-19 vaccine got infected after the two-week period needed to build up immunity, provincial data says. Even fewer fully vaccinated people tested positive 0.1 per cent.

In total, 1,006,060 Manitobansare partially vaccinated as of Sept. 27, according to statistics provided by the province.Of that sample, only 2,262 contracted COVID-19more than two weeks after receiving that first dose, the province said.

Of those 2,262 cases, 217 ended up in hospital.Forty-five of those patients died seven who were in their 50s, nine who were in their 60s and 29 who were over 70.

In total, 940,193 Manitobans are fully vaccinated, and 941 tested positive for COVID-19 as of Monday, provincial data shows.

Of those 941 people, 71ended up in hospital, or 0.01 per cent of all vaccinated people. Eighteen patients who were fully vaccinated have died five in their 60s and 13 over 70.
