Manitoba Liberals pledge rebate for low-emission cars

The Manitoba Liberals are promising to introduce rebates on low emission vehicles, according to a Friday news release.

"We feel Manitobans want to do their part and we will make that easier," said the release.

Rebates would be on a sliding scale based on a vehicle's fuelefficiency and would be anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000.

Liberal LeaderRanaBokharisaiddrivers would apply through Manitoba PublicInsurance at the time of vehicle registration.

The Liberals want toencourage Manitoba to make more environmentally friendly vehicle choices and will introduce legislation to reducing idling,said Bokhari.

"Climate change is one of the more important issues of our time and we must do all we can to be part of the solution,"Bokhari said.

Manitoba Liberals would earmark $2 million annually to support low-emission vehicle purchases, like hybrids and electric cars.
