Police watchdog investigating man's complaint of testicular pain after resisting arrest by Manitoba RCMP

Manitoba's police watchdog says it is investigating after a man who was the passenger in a vehicle that led police on an hour-long chase late last month was seriously injured while resisting arrest by RCMP officers.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba says it was notified by RCMP on Tuesday of a serious injury that took place after officers attemptedto initiate a traffic stop in Stonewall, which isabout30 kilometresnorthwest of Winnipeg, on Oct. 27 at 11:30 p.m., according to a Wednesday news release.

RCMP told the watchdog agencythat officers were trying to conduct a traffic stop ona white Ford F-150 in Stonewall when the trucktook off and a pursuit began, the release says.

The chase, which ended a little over an hour lateron Highway 8 at Emes Road,just outside of Winnipeg, led to the arrest of the driver and passenger. Both resisted arrest and had to be forcibly taken out of the vehicle, RCMP said.

The man, who was the passenger in the truck, landed onthe asphalt as he was removed by officers, according to RCMP. He later complained of testicular pain from that fall at the RCMP's Stonewall detachment.

RCMP say he was taken to the Selkirk Regional Health Centre and was later admitted to Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre to receive medical treatment.

The man's injuries are not specified in the release, but the watchdog agency says they meet their definition of a serious injury, which it is mandated to investigate.
