Manitobans demand justice for Cindy Gladue at rally

About 50 people took part in a rally on Thursday to demand justice for Cindy Gladue, an Edmonton woman whose death has sparked outrage after an Ontario man was acquitted of murder in the case.

The rally took place at noon at Oodena Circle at The Forks. Similar events have been taking place across the country this week.

Gladue, a 36-year-old Cree mother of three, was found dead in the bathtub an Edmonton hotel room in June 2011. She had bled to death from an 11-centimetre wound in her vagina.

Bradley Barton, an Ontario truck driver who was charged in connection with her death, claimed that Gladue, who worked in the sex trade, died as a result of rough sex.

On March 18, a jury found Barton not guilty of first-degree murder in Gladue's death.

Crown prosecutors in Alberta announced on Thursday that they will appeal Barton's acquittal.
