Manitoba has highest proportion of Trump supporters, poll suggests

A national poll by Mainstreet/Postmedia suggests Canadians would overwhelmingly support Hillary Clinton if they could vote in the U.S. presidential election.

If Canadians could cast a ballot in the U.S. presidential election, Manitobans would be most likely to throw their support behind Donald Trump, according to one poll.

A nation-wide poll conducted by Mainstreet/Postmedialast weekend found that 28 per centof Manitobanssurveyed said they would vote for the controversial Republican candidate. The Prairieprovinces all posted the highest levels of support for Trump with Saskatchewan at 25 percent and Alberta at 26 per cent.

In contrast, respondents from theMaritimes and Qubecwould be least likely to vote for Trump, the poll suggests, with less than 13 per cent support.

Canada-wide though,theDemocratic candidatewould have the overwhelmingsupport of voters, with 68 per cent of respondents saying they would vote for Hillary Clinton,while only 17 per cent said they would support Trump. The remaining 15percent would either vote for a third-party candidate, were undecided or would not vote.

Half of Manitobansfor Clinton: another poll

Another survey with a larger sample sizeconducted by Winnipeg-based Prairie Research Associates (PRA)released Tuesday had another take. It suggests that half of Manitobans would vote for Hillary Clinton. Support for Trump in this poll was pegged at 12 per cent.

The PRA survey had a sample size of 800 Manitobansand was conducted between Oct. 18 and Nov. 5 while the Mainstreet/Postmediapoll surveyed 501 Manitobans.

Men vs. Women

Consistent with polls in the U.S., bothpolls found men more likely than women to vote for Trump.

Nationally, Mainstreet-Postmedia found over three-quarters of women would vote for Clinton, whereas58 per cent of males said they would support her.

In Manitoba, PRA found 17 per cent of men would vote for Trump while only seven per cent of women in the province would cast a ballot for the Republican candidate.
