19-year-old charged in Manitoba double homicide

OryanFlamandhas been charged with a double homicide that led to a lockdown in Minegoziibe Anishinabe earlier this week.

Suspect arrested in Minegoziibe Anishinabe after shots were fired at police, RCMP say

A 19-year-old fromMinegoziibe Anishinabe has been charged in a double homicide that led to a lockdown in the small lakeshorecommunity earlier this week.

OryanFlamandis charged with two counts of second-degree murder, Winnipegosis RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

Hewas arrestedearly Monday morning, after shots were fired at RCMP from the residence he was in. No officers were injured.

Police said he tried to flee from the home inon an off-road vehiclebut was caught.

RCMPhad identified Flamand as the suspect in two shooting deaths.

Police first responded to reports of a shooting in the communitynear midnight on Sunday.They found an injured 34-year-old manwho died at the scene of the shooting.

The body of a 52-year-old woman was found hours later inthe same area.

The community was put on lockdown early Monday morning.

Flamand remains in custody.

Minegoziibe Anishinabe, alsoknown as Pine Creek First Nation, is on the southwestern shore of Lake Winnipegosis. It has roughly 1,500 members.
