More tax hikes for Winnipeg homeowners

School trustees in the six city divisions have either approved a school tax increase or are expected to this week.

School trustees in the six Winnipeg-baseddivisions have either approved school tax increases or are expected to this week.

Those hardest hit are in the LouisRiel School Division.OnTuesdaynight,trustees voted to jack up school taxes by 5.31 per cent. That amounts to $88.78 on the average home.

The lowest school tax hike in the city is in River-EastTranscona. Thatincrease amounts to 2.2 per cent, or about $32 on the average home.

In the Seven Oaks School Division, taxes are up 3.6 per cent. That increase works out to $63.19 on the average home.

Homeowners inPembinaTrails face a similar tax increase. Tonight trustees vote on a proposed 3.1 per cent increase, or $63 on the average home.

Also on Tuesday night, trustees in St. James-Assiniboiaapproved a 3.43 per cent tax increase. Homeowners there will pay, on average, $47.50 more.

Trustees in the city's largest division, the Winnipeg School Division, are expected to vote tonight on a proposed 3.7 per cent school tax increase. That would work out to about $43 more on the average home.
