Mosquito fogging buffer zones in Winnipeg

The number of Winnipeg households that don't want mosquito fogging on their properties has tripled since 2012, according to city data.

The total number of households that have registered for buffer zonesmeaning theownersdon't want insecticides applied on or adjacent to their principal residence has jumped from 351 in 2012 to 1,079 this year:

• 2012: 351 buffer zones
• 2013: 1,115
• 2014: 916
• 2015: 1,079

The highest number of buffer zones is in the R3G area, which includesWolseley.The lowest is in R3H, with no one registering since 2012. That area, in St. James, primarily has businesses and industry.

Fogging continues tonight

A number of neighbourhoods across the city will be fogged on Friday evening, from Kingston Crescent and Island Lakes to Kildonan Park and Seven Oaks.

When a household registers for a buffer zone, fogging crews will ensure that the sprayer is not treating within 90 metres on each side of the property on the front street, side street, and backlane, the city said.
