Brenda Osborne will spend the weekend, armed with a shovel, digging up ditches in southeastern Manitoba looking for her daughter's remains.

It's been almost five years since Claudette Osborne disappeared. She's on Manitoba's list of missing and murdered women.

Her mother has spent years searching the outskirts of the city looking for some trace of Claudette.

"That was my promise," she said. "If she ever disappeared, I would look for her and I wouldn't quit looking for her."

Osborne expects up to 30 people will show up to help search the ditches and paths along Highway 59 south of the TransCanada.

"It's like a healing process I guess, that I have to do something," she said. "I can't just sit by the phone and wait (for) any tips or leads. I have to do something."

Osborne said anyone who wants to help can meet her at Highway 59 and the TransCanada at 9 a.m. Saturday.

She is asking people to bring small shovels and water.
