Two Winnipeg men have been charged with murder in the death of Chad Davis, whose body was found in a barrel floating on the Lee River at the end of July.

Davis, 22, had been reported missing from Winnipeg in February.

Two cottagers near Lac du Bonnet, Man., found his remains July 23in a barrel that had been floating near the shoreline of the Lee River, a tributary of the Winnipeg River, northeast of Winnipeg.

Two men, age 31 and 26, respectively, have been charged with first-degree murder and remain in custody.

The two accused knew Davis, RCMP said, but spokeswoman Sgt. Line Karpish said she couldn't say how.

Karpish said she would not rule out the possibility of more arrests in the case.

"We still have work to do on this matter. We are not done," she said.

"Having said that, at this moment, we have enough evidence to proceed with charges with these two individuals."
