Three ceremonies in Manitoba are being held to mark the National Day of Honour, paying tribute to the men and women who served Canada during the 12-year military mission in Afghanistan.

Three ceremonies in Manitoba are being held to mark the National Day of Honour,payingtribute to themen and women who served Canada during the 12-year military mission in Afghanistan.

Some 40,000 fought and 158 diedduring themission, which officially ended in March, whenCanadian troops tookdown theflag at the NATO headquarters in Kabul.

"There's some of us that didn't come back so that's why this day is important to usto remember those who really made the ultimate sacrifice," said Maj.LisaBaspaly, who served in Afghanistan in 2007 and again in 2011.

She attended a ceremony Friday at Air Force Heritage Park in Winnipeg.

Other ceremonies were held atCFBShilojust east of Brandon,and atBrooksideCemetery in Winnipeg.
