Fire tore through two neighbouring homes in the North End Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the firstfire at a vacant two-storey home in the 500 block of College Avenue around 6 p.m.

Once on scene crews encountered heavy smoke and flames and found the fire had spread to a neighbouring residential side-by-side home.

Streets were closed off around the area while firefighters battled the fires.

The city says both homes suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

The home where the original fire started has been vacant since it was damaged by a previous fire in 2017. Everyone in the duplex was able to get out safely before crews arrived.

No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

An estimate on the damage was not immediately available.
