About Old Kildonan

Residents in Winnipeg's northernmost ward won't get a chance to vote for their city councillor this election.

Old Kildonan Coun. Devi Sharma, who hasrepresented the area for more than a decade, will stay on as its representative at city hall for another term.

She kept the seat by acclamation, after the deadline toregister to run for council passed on Sept. 20 with no one registered to run against her.

The ward, which stretches just past the city's north Perimeter Highway, includes the neighbourhoods of Garden City, The Maples, Mandalay West, Leila North and Amber Trails.

People in Old Kildonan will still head to the polls with the rest of Winnipeg on Oct. 26 to vote for a new mayor and school trustees.

Council candidates are also on the ballot in 13 of the city's 15 wards, after Coun. Markus Chambers in south Winnipeg's St. Norbert-Seine Riverward was also acclaimed.
