Number of vehicle break-ins spikes in River Heights, say police

Winnipeg police released a statement Friday saying theyve seen a marked increase in vehicle break-ins in the last month.

More than 80 reports of vehicle break-ins in Winnipeg neighbourhood since mid-October

Winnipeg police released a statement Friday saying theyve seen a marked increase in vehicle break-ins in the last month.

More than 80 reports of vehicle break-ins have been confirmed since the middle of October. The majority of these break-ins have occurred in the River Heights area.

Police said in many cases valuables were left out in the open, doors were left unlocked, or windows were smashed to gain access to vehicles.

Police released a set of reminders for Winnipeg vehicle-owners Friday.They advise drivers to:

  • Park out in the open and in busy areas
  • Lock yourdoors
  • Never leave a running vehicle unattended
  • Keep valuables concealed

Police encouraged Winnipeg drivers to report all break-ins, big or small.
