Old man winter delivered a gasp, not a blast to Manitoba

Environment Canada has ended a snowfall warning for western regions of southern Manitoba Saturday, and is now calling for 5 - 10 cms of the white stuff.

Environment Canada has ended a snowfall warning for western regions of southern Manitoba Saturday, and is now calling for five to10 centimetresof the white stuff.

But the agency's forecast for Winnipeg calls for five to10 cm, up from two to four earlier Saturday.

The precipitation is expected to end Sunday, but it will be windy with gusts up to 60 km/hr.

Highway conditions not great, though

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation reported a couple of washouts on highways Saturday afternoon.

Highway 5, from 2 kilometres north to 2 km south of the Assiniboine River is closed due to water on the road.

Highway 350 from the TransCanada to Highway 16 is also closed because of water.

And the 242 is closed from Highway 16 northwest of Portage la Prairie is also closed due to water.

The province said highways around Duck Mountain Provincial Park were in bad shape, with snow covered sections and poor visibility.

Most other highways in southwestern Manitoba are reported to be either snow-covered or partly snow-covered.
