One person in custody after police standoff in East Elmwood

An East Elmwood street in Winnipeg that one resident described as "quiet" lit up with police cruisers on Sunday morning when members of the tactical response team surrounded a housing unit for a standoff that ended with one person in custody.

An East Elmwood street in Winnipeg that one resident described as "quiet" lit up with police cruisers on Sunday morningwhen members of the tactical response team surrounded a housing unit for a standoff that ended with one person in custody.

Steven Pegado lives in theunitnext to where the standoff occurred, in the 300 block of Keenleyside Street.He told CBCpolice showed up around 2 a.m. and yelled the suspect's name,ordering him to come out.

Around 7 a.m., Pegado said,police toldhimand approximately 10 to 15 others to leave the housing complex.

"Cop cars had the whole street barricaded off," he said.

"From what I could see ... They were just negotiating with the suspect to get him to come out and coorperate."

By 9:30 a.m., officers were still stationed outsidethe unit and one hour later, the scene was clear.

Police saidno shots were fired.
