Stolen car crashes in Point Douglas, sending 2 women to hospital

Part of the main route through Point Douglas was closed for several hours on Thursday after a stolen car crashed, sending two people to hospital.

Crash forced police to block Higgins between Sutherland Avenue and Annabella Street for more than 5 hours

Part of the main route through Point Douglas was closed for several hours on Thursday after a stolen car crashed, sending two people to hospital.

The crash happened around 5 a.m., just after police came across the stolen vehicle nearWatt Street and Chalmers Avenue in Elmwood. They triedto pull the vehicle over but the driver sped off.

Police gave chase and the pursuit ended just across the Red River, where the stolen vehicle crashed into a barrier along a bend on Higgins Avenue atMcArthur Street.

Two women were taken to hospital. One has since been released and isin police custody while the second remains in hospital in stable condition.

The crash forced police to block Higginsbetween Sutherland Avenue and AnnabellaStreet for more than five hours. It reopenedjust after 10 a.m.

There is no word on charges.
