Police investigate city's 37th homicide in Winnipeg's West End

The Winnipeg police homicide unit is investigating after a man was found critically injured outside a home in the city's West End Thursday morning.

Winnipeg police are investigating the city's latest homicide after a man was found critically injured outside a home in the city's West End Thursday morning.

Police were called to the 1-storey house on St. Matthews Avenue, just off Arlington Street, shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday.

Officers found an injured man outside the home and he was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.

Greenwayelementary school, on BurnellStreet just west of the home, was placed under a hold-and-secure protocol meaning no one could enter or leave the building while classes continued as usual for part of the morning.

The homicide unit is investigating the death.

It's Winnipeg's 37th homicide this year.
