Driver arrested in connection with alleged hit-and-run on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg police have arrested a man who turned himself in after an alleged hit-and-run that seriously injured a pedestrian Wednesday night.

Winnipeg police say they have arrested a man who turned himself in after an alleged hit-and-run that seriously injured a pedestrian Wednesday night.

A woman in her 30s was struck by an vehicle travelling east on Portage Avenue when she stepped off the curb near the Viscount Gort Hotel.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable

At about 1:10 a.m., a man flagged down a police cruiser in the area of Garry Street and St. Mary Avenue and turned himself in. A vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision was found in the Fairfield Pak area.

Police blocked off a section of eastbound Portage Avenue near the hotelshortly before 11:30 p.m. while officers investigated. The street was reopened by around 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police are investigating the crash and investigators are looking for witnesses. Anyone with information can call204-986-7085or contact Crime Stoppers.
