The RCMP in Manitoba are embarking on the huge task of reviewing all unsolved homicides involving women in the province, searching for common threads to determine whether a serial killer might be responsible for some of them.

The RCMP in Manitoba are embarking onthe huge task of reviewing all unsolved homicides involving women in the province, searching for common threads to determinewhether a serial killer might be responsible for some of them.

"Our historical case unit will be going through every one of these files to make sure there are no gaps and to make sure everything is done that could be done on these files," said spokesperson Sgt. Line Karpish.

The cases under review involve at least 30 women. The review was prompted by mounting pressure from the families of the victims to solve the crimes.

Technology has evolved so much since many of the deaths occurred that police anticipate theymight now be able tosolve some of them, Karpish said.

The review has only just begun, and it will take a long time to complete, she said.
