Rescue team heartbroken after 3-pawed Solo dies

A surgery, which Manitoba Underdogs Rescue launched a public fundraiser for, has claimed the life of the dog the group was trying to save.

Solo, a four-month-old shepherd-cross,died after asurgery to amputatean infected leg, saidManitoba Underdogs Rescue in aFacebookpost lateTuesday.

"The Underdogs team is heartbroken," it said.

Solo's leg became diseased after her paw was chewed off, possibly by the puppy's mother. A public fundraiser was launched earlier in December to pay for a surgery to remove the infected limb.

While the amputation went well, said Manitoba Underdogs Rescue, Solo's heart rate began to slow after she was taken off oxygen.

It's believed the puppy died as a result ofa reaction to the anesthesia.

"We are confident that the hospital did absolutely everything in their power to save Solo," the group said.

Theremaining funds leftover from Solo's surgerywill go towardpaying for a spay and neuter community clinic in a northerncommunity in honour of Solo, saidManitoba Underdogs Rescue.

The group thanks everyone who donated and ended their update with this message:

"Rest easy and play hard, little Solo. You were so very loved."
